Irvine Welsh

At a Random House event in Toronto with the great Irvine Welsh explaining how he wrote SKAGBOYS. As likeable in real life as he is on Twitter. I’m a fan & got a bit star struck when I met him. The man was very patient with me.

Luminato festival

Arrived in Toronto – thanks to Dan for piloting the @luminato bus through the traffic. We compared book tours & rock tours, and concluded that the best way to survive both is to cleverly remember not to use heroin & booze. Write it on your hand or something.

Live mic

Another day, alone in another little box with another live mic. The trick is to stare the mic down until it blinks first.

Service revolver

This is the standard cell you go into when you join a live radio show down the line. You sit in silence waiting for the light to go red. If you then make an ass of yourself on live national radio, there is a standard service revolver taped under the desk & you are expected to do the decent thing.

BBC Manchester

Great interview with @highamnews at BBC flat overlooking Olympic park. Impressed by how ready it all looks.

In which I am not that bright

First interview of the day. After this I had to be taken aside & told that hand gestures don’t come out on the wireless.

Green Apple Books

After watching this, you’d need a pretty good reason not to immediately order your copy (of this or any other book) from Green Apple Books & Music.
